[singlepic id=67 w=320 h=240 float=right] Sam had a great day yesterday.  Despite being diagnosed with RSV, he keeps plugging along.  His morning x-ray looked much better than the one from the previous morning.  Also, he came off the oxygen they had him on and removed the arterial line that was in his thigh, leaving him free of all lines except for those monitoring his vital signs and his NG tube.

Since he’s doing better, last night they started to transition him from continuous feeds to bolus feeds.  This means instead of constantly being hooked up to the feed pump, he would get feeds periodically throughout the day that would take about thirty to forty-five minutes at a time.  This is how he ate before his surgery and is better because it’s more similar to a normal feeding pattern, and Sam can be active in between feeds.  So far, he’s tolerating this very well.

[singlepic id=66 w=320 h=240 float=left] Now the big news… yesterday Sam’s surgeon, Dr. Kirshbom, told Laura that if Sam continues to do well, he could be home before the weekend.  As of this morning, there’s talk that it could even be as soon as tonight.  We don’t want to push it, but I think everyone is in agreement that there’s really nothing more that can be done in the hospital that we can’t do at home.  Also, as anyone who has been in the hospital knows, you get much more rest at home (apparently there was a fire alarm incident last night that didn’t help matters much).  We also think that once Sam is home and back in his routine, it will help with his recovery.

What about Max, you ask?  He’s been spending most of his time with Mimi M. and his hellion cousins (I say that with love).  He seemed to be over the cold he had, but he hasn’t gotten much sleep lately, and he might be getting sick again.  We’re trying our best to prevent this, because we need a safe environment for Sam.  Worst case scenario is that Max will stay with his Mimi until he’s better.  We’ll see.

I’m just looking forward to having my family all in one place.  God willing, it will be soon.
