The Top Ten of Summer ’09

The Top Ten of Summer ’09

“I wonder what it would be like to live in a world where it was always June?” ~L.M. Montgomery

I can not believe it is already September 1st.  Time is flying by, in some ways I am so glad (we’re that much closer to having Sam’s surgery behind us) and in other ways I just want time to stand still as I absorb every wonderful minute with these amazing baby boys.  It only seems right to jot down a top ten list for the summer.  Yes, it is true, there were no vacations this year or even very much socializing due to our “situation” but there were LOTS of really good things!

Here’s my list (in random order, because sometimes random is just the best way to be…)

[singlepic id=7 w=320 h=240 float=right]10. The homemade pizza of chef Dan!  Holy cheesy yumminess, the man is a genius with the sauce, crust, and St. Louis flair.  Thanks for sharing with us Dan, we love it!

9. The simple joy of reading.  This summer found a lot of reading time in our household.  Sweetie loves his Kindle, and could frequently be found out on the deck submerged in a classic.  The boys and I have read at least 4-5 books every morning all summer long.  Hooray for Sandra Boynton, (author/illustrator) she helped me get through many a sleepy storytime.  I have not been able to read at the pace I have in the past.  No more devouring of books in just hours, but I did get through both some fiction (The Help is excellent) and nonfiction (Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay) being two favs.

8. Our yard!  We did not neglect it quite as much as last year (thanks Mom for helping us both years) and enjoyed lots of bright flowers, yummy tomatoes, and tasty herbs!

7. My brand spankin’ new swing.  Sweetie got me a new deck swing for Mother’s Day and we have loved it!  It is not only a very comfortable swing but converts into a bed.  Can you say “nap?”

6. Good Grillin’!  I am going to be gunning for my own show on Food Network before too long.  Hey, Bobby Flay has “Boy Meets Grill” I can at least have “The Princess and her Propane Tank Make Dinner!”  Yup, we have actually had to get a second tank this year due to all the charred goodness.  Nothing tastes as good as grilled summer veggies.

Halfway there…

5.  Summer Celebrations!   Sweetie’s first Father’s Day, our 7th wedding anniversary, and the 4th of July!

4. Wii at the “Crazy House!”  Good times, good times.  Our nephew Landon has a bowling style equal in greatness to Fred Flintstone.  He and Zach are both a lot of fun to play with during the hot hours of the day.

3. The help and support of all our friends and family.  You all have been terrific, we value all of your time and encouragement as we navigate through parenthood.  You know, thinking about it, we’ll still need you in the fall, and the winter, and probably next spring, and than it will be summer again…

2. Our family and friends visiting from out of town… Hooray for lots of guest room usage!  We were so, so happy to see all of you.  Each of you gave us the opportunity to introduce you to these boys of ours and spend some time with you right here at home.

1. Baby Milestones… Lots of smiles, lots of giggles, the first little Chiclet teeth, trying Stage 1 fruits and veggies, using the bouncy seats, jumping in the doorway, realizing each other existed, and so many precious moments as a family of four.

Here’s hoping your summer was super, and fall is full of laughter and good times!
