Good News… sort of.

Hi-

The other day, Sam had another appointment with the cardiologist.  He’s doing great… In fact, Sam’s doing so great, that his head surgeon has decided that his surgery doesn’t need to be for another six to nine months!  The point of waiting is so Sam is as big and strong as possible for the surgery.  We always knew this, but we were pretty much lead to believe that this was only going to be a few months.  So, we were pretty shocked when we were told the new timetable.  On one hand, we’re thrilled Sam’s doing so well, but on the other hand, we’re a bit nervous that he will remain in the “high risk” category for so long.  Of course, we’re all about doing what’s best for Sam, so now we’re just waiting until it’s time… I’m sure it will just fly by (sarcasm)!  Also, if the shunt in his heart starts to become less effective, they will do the surgery earlier.

[singlepic id=30 w=320 h=240 float=right]Well, now our goal is to get Sam off his NG tube.  He’ll need to keep it in until after the surgery, but if we can get him to eat from his bottle, he’ll be able to use the NG tube less, and it will be better for his overall development.  We’re starting to lay out a fairly aggressive plan for that.  Otherwise, everything is great.  Both Sam and Max continue to grow and thrive, and they are typically happy babies.  Here is a recent picture of them hamming it up for the camera.

As always, thanks for your continued thoughts and prayers.  Until next time…

Love,
George, Laura, Sam and Max
